Frey was the kid of Indianapolis journalist and musician/composer Fremont Frey. Through the entire early 1920s he performed and sang in region orchestras, and found NY to surface in the Eddie Cantor stage providing of “Child Boot styles” and in “Sunny” with Marilyn Miller. Between 1927 and 1929, Frey also sang within a vocal trio within a Broadway creation of “VERY GOOD NEWS” throughout 557 shows. He was the business lead vocalist using the George Olson orchestra at New York’s Resort Pennsylvania home orchestra for quite some time, which was noticed on radio. Then relocated to the Western Coastline where he sang and organized music and made up cues and styles, like the theme for the air series “Big City”. During those years, Frey was also noticed on nationwide radio networks like a vocalist and orchestra innovator.
