#Fact
Just before his death, Rosenthal completed his autobiography "By Jack Rosenthal" (Robson Books, 2005). According to the publishers: "Jack Rosenthal had always resisted writing an autobiography, until he hit on an original way of writing it that excited him: it would be as a screenplay, with himself as the central character, the storyline that of his own life, the supporting cast drawn from the many wonderful and sometimes eccentric people who touched, shaped and shared that life".
Bye Bye Baby (2001) was inspired by his own period of National Service, as a Royal Navy Coder, in West Germany, in R.A.F. Signals & Intelligence, when (as "Secret Classrooms," a book published in 2002, explains) he had been trained to monitor Soviet air traffic during the Cold War.
He was awarded the C.B.E. (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 1993.
Was a scriptwriter on the 1st episode of Coronation Street (1960) and wrote for over 150 different episodes.
Children: Adam Rosenthal and Amy Rosenthal.
